Governing Board
Mainland Medical Center is led by a team of more than 725 employees and 200 physicians. This team is supported by a notable Governing Board, comprised of highly respected and accomplished physician and community business leaders.
The role of Mainland Medical Center’s Board is to assist in developing the hospital’s strategic direction and focus, and evaluating the hospital’s delivery of health care, and development of new service lines and programs that ensure our patients are provided the most advanced technology and cost-effective health care close to home.
Meet Our Board
Larry Edrozo is an attorney in Texas City who has served our community for many years. He is a past member of the Texas City Commission and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas City-LaMarque Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. George W. Cox, M. D. is board certified orthopedic surgeon at Mainland Medical Center. Dr. Cox completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and is a practicing physician in the Orthopedic Clinic of Galveston County. Along with his busy practice, Dr. Cox is a Clinical Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch and is a member of many scientific societies including a Diplomat, American Board of Orthopedic Surgery; a Fellow, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; the Texas Medical Association; The American Medical Association; and a past president of the Galveston County Medical Society. Dr. Cox and his wife Romayne have four children.
Joe Dickson is employed as City Manager for the City of Santa Fe. He is active in many organizations and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce.
Julie Dues-Masters is currently serving as Mayor of the City of Dickinson and is President of the Galveston County Mayors' and Councilmembers' Association. She is the Executive Director of Keep Dickinson Beautiful and is involved in many community organizations.
Dr. Robinson has been on staff at Mainland Medical Center since 1998. She is also active in the community and a member of the Rotary Club of Texas City.
Robin Armstrong , M. D. is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Armstrong completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where he also completed his residency. Dr. Armstrong is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Galveston County Medical Society, the American College of Physicians, and American Society of Internal Medicine. Dr. Armstrong and his wife Martha live in Texas City and have one son, Daniel.
Dr. Tarek Koussayer, M. D. is Medical Director of the Emergency Medicine department. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at UTMB Galveston and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Koussayer has been at Mainland since 1995 and is a member of the Emergency Committee, Medical Executive Committee and sub-Committee of Medicine/Family Medicine.
Ben L. Cavil is a graduate of Prairie View A & M University and holds a Master of Education Administration degree from Texas Southern University and pursued additional post graduate studies in educational administration at the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Cavil spent more than 35 years as a classroom teacher, coach and administrator in schools in West Texas, Galena Park and most recently, LaMarque ISD where he retire from in 2001 as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
He continues to contribute as a teacher working part-time as a substitute Administrator in the Clear Creek and LaMarque ISDs. Cavil is a member of the McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church. He is a member of the Texas City Parks & Tourism Board, and the Texas City and Galveston County Salvation Army Boards. Cavil says his strongest assets are working with children and youth, public service, and working with people.
Catherine Potter is Chief Financial Officer, Texas Independent Bancshares President, board member, Texas First Bank. Potter’s responsibilities in Texas City include bank management for Texas City as well as managing investments, finance and operations, and central reporting and analysis for affiliated banks.
She is a board member, secretary for Texas First Bank, Santa Fe; a board member for Rust-Ewing Insurance and board member at United States Management. Potter holds Bachelor degrees in marketing and accounting as well as a Master of Business Administration and is a Certified Public Accountant. Potter is an inductee of the TCISD Foundation for the Future Hall of Honor and is the first recipient of the Texas First Female Banker of the Year.
She has received the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Community Service and the Outstanding Citizen Award. Potter is also on the Rotary Club Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Roll of Fame.
Dr. Archarya, M. D. is Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at Mainland Medical Center and has been practicing at MMC since 1993. Dr. Acharya graduated from Baroda Medical University in Baroda, India where he also completed his internship and residency. He completed two years of advanced training in invasive and interventional cardiology in New York and is board certified in internal medicine as well as subspecialties of cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr. Acharya is very active within the hospital and has been a member of several committees promoting excellence in practice.
Dr. John Lewis M. D. is a board certified neurologist and has been on staff at Mainland Medical Center since 1979. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and is a member of the Texas Neurological Society, AAN. Dr. Lewis is Chair of the MMC Credentials Committee, a member of the hospital’s Peer Review Board and also a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He was named Mainland Medical Center’s Physician of the Year in 2007 and is known for his compassionate and caring attitude for his patients and the MMC staff.
Bob Brundrett, Ph.D., has been superintendent of schools for Texas City ISD since August 2008. His career in education spans 31 years. He began his career as assistant band director in Santa Fe ISD. While in Santa Fe, he served as an Assistant Principal at Santa Fe Junior High and Santa Fe High School, as the Director of Special Education and then as Principal of Santa Fe Jr. High School.
In 1996, Brundrett was hired as the State Coordinator for Texas Middle School Education for the Region 13 Education Service Center before he joined Spring ISD six years later as the Executive Director for Secondary School Improvement. He also worked in Killeen ISD in an assistant superintendent's role as instructional leader of middle schools before joining Texas City ISD.
Brundrett, a Dickinson native, graduated from The University of Houston – University Park in 1979 and received his masters from the University of Houston – Clear Lake in 1986. He received his doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in 2004. Brundrett and his wife Lisa have two children, a daughter Avery, 13 and son, Riley, 6.
